Casa Solana

Casa Solana, in the municipality of Horcajuelo de la Sierra—formerly known as El Orajuelo—is located in the north of the province of Madrid, in the southern foothills of the Ayllón massif, part of the Somosierra range. Its surface area is 24.4 square kilometers and its average altitude is 1,145 m, reaching 2,030 m at its northern end and descending to 1,050 m at the southern end. The incredible physical environment where it is settled is harsh and topographically rugged, with poor, stony soil and an abundance of small watercourses that allow for orchard areas and intensive pasture. Scrubland grows on the granite ridges. In the moorland, there is an extensive mountain area with pine forests and some rockrose. Closer to the village, there are abandoned plots that were once farmland. Pyrenean oak forests, pastures with holm oak hedges, and some terraced crops can also be found. La Solana is a house where the finest and most typical materials of the area were used to adapt to the needs of the most demanding guests.
